Oh I don't know -- could it be because we already have 650 different $1 dollar coins that nobody likes to use and he finds the entire thing a waste of time and energy?
That might be it.
Read the story about a new $1 coin here:
A member of the Minnesota media once said that the metro area of Minneapolis and St Paul would become a "Cold Omaha" without new stadiums and the sports teams that go with them. We couldn't agree more.

feel you. the problem is that the places that it would make most sense to use a dollar coin -- parking meters, laundry machines, and vending machines -- don't take them by and large. also, nothing against the dollar coin, but it's not like I use dollar bills -- in any increment -- for anything anyway.
also, as for the mitch mcdeere idea from the other post, there's no way he's ever going back down to the cayman's. abby wouldn't let him. no way.
I like the idea of a dollar coin. when I was in London I preferred the pound...oh well. It is weird that we are so resistant to this, I mean usually people love change. For instance, we are going to change to the metric system any day now and new coke was a BIG hit.
Would the dollar coin mean that strippers would end up looking like someone who gives change at an arcade?
